-------
Blue Tiger’s Eye (Hawk’s Eye) is rarer than traditional Golden Tiger’s Eye, but it is still considered a semi-precious stone rather than an exceptionally rare mineral. It is found in limited deposits worldwide, and high-quality specimens with strong chatoyancy and deep blue coloration are less common than their golden or red counterparts.
Why is Blue Tiger’s Eye Rarer Than Golden Tiger’s Eye?
-
Formation Process: Blue Tiger’s Eye is the earliest stage of Tiger’s Eye formation, where crocidolite (a blue asbestos-like mineral) has not yet fully oxidized into the golden-brown hues of traditional Tiger’s Eye. This makes finding high-grade Blue Tiger’s Eye more difficult, as much of it eventually transforms into the more common golden variety.
-
Limited Mining Locations: The main sources of Blue Tiger’s Eye are South Africa, Namibia, Western Australia, and Brazil, but deposits are not as widespread as Golden Tiger’s Eye.
-
Color & Quality Rarity: Premium-quality stones with deep, vibrant blues are harder to come by.
